Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Seeing my students each class is one of the best parts of my day. I love the camaraderie in the classroom and how we learn from each other daily. For me, it's energizing to see them learn and to watch their understanding of Construction Trades grow throughout the year. Students love working with tools, building beautiful and useful things with their own hands. We have built everything from tables and chairs to holiday decorations and sheds.
Every year, and with every project, I am able to observe the pure pride of accomplishment of a student beholding a completed project.
In my own life, there has hardly been a greater joy than standing back and enjoying the beauty of something you have built with your own hands. And I love it when students can experience this as well. It builds self-respect, dignity, and self-esteem to complete a project. This is some of the most important work a teacher can do.
My Project
My students are constantly asking to design their own projects on an iPad. With the iPad Pro, we'll be able to improve our designs. Technology just like this is used on the job site every day!
Often, due to the 2D nature of drawing on paper and the limitations of our artistic skills (lol), we run into design problems.
With an iPad Pro running the latest 3d modeling software, my students will be able to design, sketch, and create projects with incredible accuracy and detail. Plus, we'll be able to connect to a printer to print plans directly from the drawings.
