Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a Title I school where over 95% of them receive free and reduced lunch. They have not let this stop their achievement or insatiable curiosity.
In fact, our school was in the top 25% of growth in our very large district!
However, to continue this growth we need to continuously look for ways to spark their thinking, feed their curiosity and provide opportunities for them to have productive struggle to develop resilience to complete difficult tasks.
My Project
Coding and computer science are imperative to the future success of my students. Cubelets will pair coding and critical thinking with resiliency through trial and error and will benefit our students as they reach to meet and exceed the Common Core Standards and prepare for the digital world. In addition, Cubelets would help level the playing field for our kids, many of whom do not have any technology at home, by giving them opportunity to discover their digital skill set and build upon it.
According to Matthew Wilson from USA Today College (February 15, 2017) , "New computer science graduates often have their pick of opportunities as recruiters struggle to fill positions in the industry." Cubelets will begin to prepare my young students for their future in a digital world and will expand their career opportunities.
Cubelets encourage collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking, skills needed in a digital world.
