Do you remember how you felt when you had to do something you thought was really frightening? Sometimes your stomach would hurt or you got real quiet? I have students that get this way when they read.
I have a classroom full of five, six, and seven year old students.
The children range in academic abilities from gifted talented to special needs. As first graders, they are all very active and all have a passion for technology. Our school district is located in a very rural location in upstate New York and, with funds being cut, we are not able to keep our technology up-to-date, let alone supplement what little we do manage to possess.
My Project
I am asking for help in providing interactive learning games for the Smartboard. We are so lucky to have had the funding to purchase the technology and now we would like to expand on it. There are so many fun and exciting "games" for reading that the students will never know they are performing a task they did not like to do. The games will provide easy reinforcement to skills they need to start, and then maintain, their reading abilities.
With your donation, our classroom can experience a new way to alleviate the fear of reading through a fun-filled activity using the interaction of technology.
It could be the one little spark a child needs to show himself or herself that they can read!
