My students need 6 leveled sets of Meet the Common Core Math Standards Learning Centers that will allow them to explore, understand, practice and master the Common Core Math Standards.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Every time the bell rings, a new set of students gathers in my room for help with their math skills. Each student has their own needs and difficulties. I want my students to understand and master all math standards. The challenge is to identify the difficulties and help students work through them.
As a math interventionist, I work with the students who are having difficulty with basic math skills.
I work with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. While they are struggling, they are also eager to learn and master these skills. Since Common Core demands that students dig deeper into these skills, it is imperative that they master the basics in order to be able to dig deeper. The school in which I am employed is in a high poverty area. Over 90% of our students receive free or reduced meals. There are just over 400 students in my school, and I service roughly 90 of them. They are a wonderful group of eager students who desperately want to master the math skills being taught to them.
Common Core Math supplies are very limited, and students do not always have access to what they need to be able to practice these skills in the classroom. The Common Core Learning Centers will allow me to determine what specific area/skill a student has difficulty with and provide practice materials that address it. Common Core expects students to be fluent with basic operations. Therefore, students need activities that will help them practice increasing fluency. The Eggspert Wireless Game System and the student timers included in this project will provide tools for the students to use to reach their fluency goals. Also included in this project is a set of Addition Fluency puzzles. While puzzles indicate they are for first grade students, I know that they can be utilized by my kindergarten and second grade students to help increase their addition fluency.
Understanding and mastering the Common Core Math Standards will allow my students to better compete with their national peers.
Since my students already have difficulty with basic skills, it is imperative that they have extra opportunities to explore and practice these skills. The materials that are included in this project will provide a variety of methods my students can use to explore and practice these skills, as well as build fluency. This will make a great impact on their learning growth.
