This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My elementary multiple disabilities classroom is full of eager learners who embrace every learning opportunity thrown at them. The students spend hours within the classroom learning through all of their senses and exploring their environment through hands-on activities.
This individualized learning environment takes into consideration all levels of abilities to ensure that everyone is successful.
The students within my class are provided every opportunity to grow and to show what they learn through various adapted lessons, but sometimes they need materials to help them get a full understanding of the lessons being taught.
My Project
Within my special education classroom, my students have an opportunity to receive many hands-on learning activities and the use of a sensory room, but they are in the need of a more defined work space throughout the classroom environment. This project is part two of an already fully funded project. As stated before, research shows that students with disabilities work best when they can predict what will happen next. So having the ability to divide up the classroom in different work areas would be beneficial to my students' education. They also need materials the support their growth and development, especially on their developmental level.
Providing a more defined work space and having areas designated for a particular task would allow my students to become more independent and navigate their environment more effectively.
The carpet would allow my students to have a more defined sitting area for morning and evening meeting, as well as a place to complete floor activities. The individual activities would be geared to individual students' IEP goals and academic needs. This project will continue to provide the students with same goal as the previous funded part one project, to build independence and reduce behaviors.
