My students, in grades 8 through 12, are learning Spanish to help themselves make greater connections with people around the world. They have chosen Spanish as part of their learning journey, and many student continue into more advanced levels.
Students love learning and practicing the language and they appreciate learning about the daily lives and practices of the Spanish-speaking world.
My students would greatly benefit from cultural exposure through literature, as the community and the school is slowly becoming more diverse.
My Project
Having access to an array of quality trade books will help my students to make connections with the cultures they are studying. By reading about the Hispanic or Latino experience, students gain empathy, which is necessary in today's global society.
This literature allows students to experience the world through other people's eyes.
These books are not just words on pages, but rather life experiences of people who have struggled for safety, security, identity, and acceptance.
Please assist me in bringing the world to my students through literature. With titles appealing to many levels and interests, these books will be part of the cultural curriculum.
