My students need to see these positive quotes so they begin to believe that there is nothing in this world they cannot do. I want to create an environment of positive affirmations everywhere they go.
I have the privilege of teaching at one of the oldest schools in Brentwood. Every year I have the opportunity to teach and touch the lives of over 85 students. All of these kids come with their own special gifts. Some of the many gifts they possess are speaking different languages, having different abilities, and even some whose gift is to challenge me to help them to like school again. Whatever gift it is they come to the classroom with, we take and build off of it. We learn to leave each day better than the last and to expect more of ourselves than we did the day before.
Throughout my 19 years of teaching I have learned that you can't fill a child's mind until you have filled their soul.
My students know that when they walk through the door of my classroom, there will be a smile waiting for them and the belief that there is nothing that we can't accomplish together. I am blessed to be a teacher, and I believe that each and every day it is my gift to show my students how much they are loved and all they are capable of achieving!
My Project
Imagine a world where we could turn on the news and not be saddened. Imagine a world where students could go to school and their biggest worry was learning the rigorous material that their teacher was presenting. Mr. Rogers once said, "Love is at the root of everything; Love or the lack thereof." I believe that we need to intentionally create environments where students feel safe, motivated and cared for. While I know a good portion of this comes from the interactions with adults, I also know that environment matters. With these quotes, I can begin to create an environment where every student benefits, not just the 70 I teach.
These resources will allow me to continue my campaign of connection and kindness as these quotes are placed everywhere that students and staff go.
I plan to go in and decorate every restroom on our campus with these positive affirmations so that students and staff feel cared for. It is my belief that when people feel cared for, they are more successful in all areas of their life and in return we have a SAFER more productive educational environment.
