My Students

Our school considers social skills equally important to academic skills. We continually look for ways to incorporate citizenship and service to the community into our learning. Past projects include turning our classroom into a rainforest, writing and performing monologues from different characters' perspectives, and designing carnival games in order to host a carnival for some younger students. These opportunities are exciting challenges for our 5th-grade class and lead us to amazing discoveries.

My students are some of the most enthusiastic people I know.

Their curiosity is a force to be reckoned with and I am constantly amazed by the quality of work they achieve once inspiration strikes and ambition sets in.

My Project

The 5th grade classes will travel to the north shore of Lake Superior. Far from their city homes, the students will participate in activities like orienteering, winter survival, animal ecology, and rock climbing. These activities allow for practical applications of math, science, and social studies skills and the opportunity to be outdoors for the majority of the day enables students to fully engage with their learning.

Being at Wolf Ridge gives students opportunities to interact with the natural world and with each other in ways they simply can't in the city.

Students work together to build fires, identify lichen, and cross a high ropes course. The overnight trip to Wolf Ridge provides students with opportunities to be successful in ways they never imagined.
