My Students

One potato, two potato, three potato, four...children are learning all about counting, numerals and number sense in kindergarten.

Aloha!

This year I have a large class of 25 kindergartners. Over 50% of our students receive free or reduced meals. Many of our students are in a formal education system for the very first time. Children learn best through play. My students are enthusiastic about school and learning. Having math manipulatives for every child in my class to work with will help them learn math concepts.

My Project

The apron and linking cubes I am requesting are to help my students make math connections. The apron will allow children to visually and kinesthetically learn about numbers and counting. I already have felt numerals and shapes in my class and I'm excited to use them for number stories on this apron. The linking cubes will give children the hands-on experience of understanding numbers. Many times, children are taught the numeral and number in an abstract way. Using the linking cubes will give students the practice to concretely understand and grasp the math concepts they are learning.

Your support of this project will give my kindergartners the chance to have a concrete sense of numbers.
