Help me give my students books that they can not only enjoy, but make connections with and challenge their positions with. These books allow for bigger conversations about race, gender, and society as a whole.
My students are full of diverse, talented, high-energy scholars. They strive to work hard and do their best in order to reach the goals that they have set for themselves.
These students are some of the nicest and most creative people that I have had the pleasure of working with and they are constantly finding new and interesting ways to show me their skills.
Whether it is a quick conversation with a student or an assignment that they are working hard on, my students are always amazing me with their personalities and talents.
Federal Way prides itself on being a diverse and inclusive community, and my students come from all different backgrounds. As we work together in class, my students pull from their lives to connect to literature and others. I hope to give back and teach them as much as they are teaching me this year!
My Project
My students come from a very diverse area and bring with them many different life experiences and interests. As we read day to day, it is important to me to have them see these differences reflected in the materials that I provide them.
These books will help me provide students with literature that clearly connects more to their lives and interests than what I currently have in my library.
As a first year teacher, it is important to me to continue to build my classroom library so that my students know that I am listening to them and care about their interests. These books will not only provide students with connections to their literature, but they will allow me to hold conversations with my students on topics concerning gender, race, societal constructs, and their own personal interests.
Having texts like these will help me create a culture of reading in my classroom and will allow for students to feel more connected to their materials and our classroom. I hope that these will allow my students to find the beauty in reading and will provide them with materials that they may not have outside of school day to day.
