Connecting, Reflecting and Building Trust With My Students
Help me give my students journals where they can reflect and write to me about their pit and peak of the week. I will then write back and connect with them on a personal, emotional level.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My hard-working and dedicated students love to learn. They are a diverse group of learners from low socio-economic backgrounds. The student enrollment at my school is 65% low-income and 15% English language learners. My students thrive academically and emotionally when they are in a positive learning environment.
The students in my classroom have many challenges at home and lack stability and structure in their home life.
My students respond positively when components of their day are routine and structured. In our school, we have connections class daily where we can connect to students and teach components of executive functioning and social emotional learning.
My Project
These personal journals will be used in my connections class as well is any class where I feel it could benefit a student. In connections class, my students write to me about the peak and pit of their week. The peak was the highlight of their week or something positive to reflect and celebrate. The pit of the week was the part of their week that disappointed them or proved to be difficult.
I feel strongly if the my students had a personal journal where they could record their ups and downs over the year, it would prove to be more effective than just writing on loose leaf paper.
With a journal, we could write back and forth and it would all stay together in one place to see patterns. The reflections would all remain in the same place if they wanted to refer back to it. The journal could show their personal growth and struggles throughout the whole year. My students love small items like journals or planners but most don't have the money to purchase them. I know without a doubt, they would value these journal notebooks.
