My Students
My students are energetic and hungry for learning. They come from a variety of backgrounds and school experiences. The students have a positive impact on their peers through their choices in learning and application. The students come from diverse backgrounds and come to school to experience a positive and safe learning experience. Each student enters the classroom with a smile and a welcoming greeting.
The classroom consists of students who are struggling learners, on-level learners and students who need challenged.
Some of the students have had a prior classroom experience while others are coming directly from home experiences only. The students are hungry for expanding their knowledge about Science. All of our students receive free and reduced price breakfast, lunch and snack daily. The school provides education for all students ranging from the typical peer to intensive students. Our classroom has eight students that push in to enhance their learning. These students may have communication boards, visual impairment, or other disabilities that may require a variety of learning modalities.
I am hoping to enrich learning about weather with nonfiction resources, relatable text and hands-on application. This unit is a basis for additional studies later in weather.
My Project
The nonfiction books on clouds, severe weather, rain, sun, wind and other weather types will benefit my students by providing them with real life connections and understandings about how weather can impact our community and our lives.
Our current weather unit does not provide the necessary resources and materials to meet the Next Generation Science Standards that have been adapted in Delaware.
The students will have the opportunity to create a tornado using the cyclone maker, analyze weather patterns using the weather forecasting kits and gain a deeper understanding of the different types of weather that we may experience in Delaware as well in our travels in the United States.
