Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How hard is it to teach some math concepts? Hmmm..some are very challenging. We all know the students today live in a word of technology. Therefore, why not increase their skills with a little fun along the way. The Xbox Kinect will help the students master skills using equalities, angles, etc.
I currently teach in a high poverty school with a large population of ELL students.
Many of my students have limited English, but are hard workers and will go the extra mile to learn. They are dedicated to attending school on a Saturday to maximum their learning. My students are great with technology and tend to grasp any concept when technology is involved because they do not feel overwhelmed. I know the Xbox Kinect will increase their skills in making charts/graphing, understanding the different types of angles, calculating statistical results, converting fractions to decimals, etc. The students will not only have fun but will create a more challenging environment to enhance their writing skills as well.
My Project
Everyday my students receive enrichment/intervention time at the end of the day. By incorporating the Xbox Kinect, it will allow kinesthetic and bodily activities in math class. For example, the students will be able to play knocking down the numbers in bowling. This game will allow students to take their scores from ten frames in fractions and convert them to percent and decimals. Another example, the students can work as a sport analyst after playing a game of baseball. At the end of the two innings, each student creates a stats report for their team using the data their partner collected. It may include percentages, or ratios. The students will discuss whether the data is skewed.
This piece of technology will make a tremendous difference in my classroom and grasp the students attention.
By funding this project you will make the difference in my students by lives by keeping them engaged and challenged. We would appreciate your efforts in funding our project.
