Connecting Kids to Learning During the Covid 19 Shutdown

My Students

Most of our students and their families have endured chronic economic, social and emotional challenges. The current pandemic has placed an additional burden on these families and has made it even more difficult to receive the support they need.

I am continually inspired by the character, resilience and perseverance shown by our students, many of whom have experienced chronic poverty and trauma caused by events in their environment such as gun violence, domestic abuse/neglect, homelessness, substance abuse, and mental illness.

My Project

When our school was shut down due to the pandemic, we were directed to distribute all available laptops to students from our school and other local schools on a first come first serve basis. A team of volunteers distributed all of our laptops, which left 600 of our own students without. Donations will be used to purchase Chromebooks for 10 of those students who have no access to Google classroom.

Our goal is to get all of our students connected via Google classroom to continue their learning during the shutdown and beyond.

I am asking for donations to purchase 10 additional laptops to allow more of our students to connect with their teachers, support staff and classmates to continue learning and to receive necessary support during this challenging time.
