This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you love to tell stories? First graders often tell the most touching, heartwarming, and funny stories! There is an old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words!" We are starting a photography project to help enhance our school and home connection and also strengthen our writing!
My students attend one of six elementary schools in our district, and has a very high low-income rate, around 90%.
However, my students are motivated and ready to learn! My students love to share about their lives, and we love to listen. My students are growing in their reading and writing skills this year!
My Project
I am requesting three digital cameras, three memory cards for the cameras and three cases to protect the cameras while traveling to and from school to homes. We will use these cameras for several reasons. My students will take turns taking cameras home and sharing them with their parents. They will take pictures of things that are important to them. I will download these pictures and the students will be able to share about their lives outside of school! This will help our classroom community know more about the student and their interests. Students will also write about their photographs, and improve on details and vocabulary in their writing.
My students need to know that they are important, and that their parents and the school are working together as a team to support them.
We need to learn about each other and build a mutual trust. My first graders will be excited to start this project and share with our classroom community what is important to them outside of our school walls!
