My rural students are excited to learn about places and artists from across the world. They enjoying looking at and discussing diverse artworks. From these artworks, they learn techniques to try.
Students come into the art room excited to make their ideas come alive.
Our room functions as an art studio, filled with centers that they can visit. Drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and clay are available for my students to use as they work self-directed on what they care about most.
My Project
In teaching my students to be innovators and creative, questions come to mind as to how best serve them. This professional development trip will reinforce what I already know about teaching creativity while also connecting me to new ideas. As a rural educator, it is often hard to find educators who are focused on creativity and design thinking in the classroom. Luckily for me, I have an awesome professional development team who I hope can accompany me on this trip and make our school’s K-12 art department a leader in the teaching of creativity. This grant will make that achievable.
