Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In the fall our Kindergarten team wants to sponsor several parent nights for families to come together to learn and play. We will be having Family Reading and Math Events along with our Family Game Night. The art of playing a board game as a family has almost been lost with electronic devices, yet board games are very good learning tools especially for social skills and problem solving.
We will be holding two Family Game Nights for our 100 Kindergarten Families each year. One will be held in the fall and another in the spring of every year. We need a variety of board games appropriate for families of young children to play. When the games are not being used at Family Game Night they can be used in our classrooms or checked out by families to play at home. The greater majority of our children receive free lunch and more than 65% are English Language Learners. We believe this experience will be very beneficial to our families as we show them how to interact with their children as an alternative to TV and electronic games.
