Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 32 students attending school in a low socioeconomic area. We are a Title I school where all students receive subsidized meals. My students possess a wide range of academic skills with half of them performing up to two years below grade level in reading and writing.
I know with effective and engaging resources and strategic lesson planning my students can succeed.
These resources will allow me to use one of their favorite book series to supplement my curriculum. Any support that you could offer is tremendously appreciated!
My Project
The three book titles that have been specifically chosen (e.g. Japanese tsunami of 2011, San Francisco earthquake of 1906, an eruption of Mt. Saint Helens in 1980) will support the students' abilities to develop reading comprehension and fluency skills in addition to forming narrative writing pieces.
The books will also support their conceptualization of earth science standards regarding the effects of natural disasters and the possible steps to reduce their impacts on human life and activity.
I can't overstate how much my students enjoy this book series. My goal is to capitalize on their interests in order to keep them engaged. Your donation will assist all my students in reaching their literacy goals.
