Ms. Warner from Richmond VA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need hands on art materials and visual aids to complete maskmaking projects. Items include 30 plastic facial molds, plaster strips, posters, and a Masks from Many Cultures video. Most materials and visual aids requested can be re-used for all of my students for years to come in art class.

I teach at a Title I school with a large population of students with exceptionalities requesting art materials and visual aids.
Currently art students at my school are provided a budget of 65 cents per student. Our students deserve better. Art class is a place where all students can be successful and feel good about themselves. Art class is a safe place to foster dreams and hope for the future. During the school year, I feel it is important to introduce history and cultures into my art program. This allows for students to see a bigger picture of the world. Often students have never been out of their own inner city neighborhoods. By introducing history and cultures in art class, students are able to relate and become more tolerant of different types of people.
I would like to teach a unit on mask making. By teaching mask making, I will be able to incorporate history and culture into art class. Students will create masks inspired by a variety of cultures, while also making their masks about themselves. Students will create a mask symbolizing an important characteristic they possess using plaster strips and mask molds.
By choosing to provide funds for this project, you are guaranteed to affect the lives of thousands of students. Most of the visuals aids and art materials will be able to be used again and again for years to come. Through learning about cultures in art class, students are gaining tolerance of other people and understanding there is a whole world to explore beyond their own neighborhoods.
