My current 4th grade students are spread throughout the city of Indianapolis, in all sorts of home environments. We (as a 4th grade team) have been able to connect with all of our students on the phone, but some don't have access to the type of technology that will allow for constant online learning.
Many of my students are sharing one technology device between multiple students and parents as they attempt to work and learn from home.
Some families do not have access to new books for their students since libraries are closed. All of my families and students are doing the best they can with what they have!
Our school focuses on forming connections. We begin each day with a morning meeting, where we share our thoughts, ideas and feelings. We are missing this part of our day while learning from home!
Our students will receive two novels that focus on our IB learner profile attributes of perspective, connection, and change!
By providing each of our students these two novels, it will allow us to form connections to the text, to the events happening in our world, and most importantly to one another! By providing students paperback books, they can read while family members use the technology and participate in group chats about the novel!
