Children in my class are very diverse and come from very different backgrounds, making them each special in their own way. There are varying needs, cultures, religions, languages, and different economic backgrounds.
I teach an awesome and diverse Kindergarten inclusion classroom.
Our class is a place where children are accepted no matter what makes them different. Because there are so many different needs, it is important to differentiate instruction and make sure students have the resources they need so they are available to learn. The class consists of 22 students, some of which are on the autism spectrum, have ADHD, communication impairments, and other needs.
My Project
Technology is something that children of all levels seem to grasp readily. Technology does not recognize language barriers, children’s levels or needs. It is something that children are interested in, sustains their attention, and they enjoy learning whether they are a visual learner, auditory learner and/or kinesthetic learner. At the kindergarten grade level, students are beginning to learn how to use digital tools. iPads are a great way for students to begin to explore these tools. With easy to manipulate touchscreen technology, iPads can allow every young child access to these digital tools. We have recently received 20 iPads through a grant.
We need durable iPad cases to begin this new learning adventure!
iPads in the classroom will be used to enhance instruction. Technology components are integrated into lessons where and when the use of technology will enhance the learning objectives. We will be able to increase engagement, provide immediate feedback to students, differentiate instruction, and allow students to take control of their learning. Not only will iPads allow students to take control of their own learning, but they’ll help to produce kindergarteners that are confident and prepared for the future.
