My Students

I work with loving and supportive, low-income families who struggle to provide for their children's basic needs.

Many parents work two jobs just to pay for rent, food, and clothing.

Our students often lack the basic funds for school supplies and field trips. Therefore, whatever knowledge and skills my students gain at school will be the set of tools they have to use in the world. That is why I feel the urgency and importance that at school, I need to provide the essential knowledge and variety of skills sets they need to succeed in the world.

My Project

My students are thirsty for knowledge and adventure through literature.

We have amazing discussions about cultural differences and growth mindset topics in our classroom. However, my classroom lacks the books to support and extend these wonderful discussions.

My students come from many different cultures and family backgrounds. At times, they have experiences and issues only children with their same culture and background can relate to. It would be so helpful if my classroom library had books that reflected the wonderful diversity of my students and the life issues they encounter. Students need to connect with the characters and issues in the stories. When they connect emotionally, they will build up their identity, self-worth, and purpose in this world. The books in my project will definitely excite them to read and to know they are valued.
