My students need 30 cow magnets, 1 magnet experiment set, 6 cow magnets that come apart, 3 lodestones, a Neodymium Magnet and a magnetic field demonstrator.
I am a fifth grade teacher, and this project will help be shared with all the fifth grade students at my school. We have 64 students in two classes, including 4 severely disabled, and 2 in wheelchairs. This project will also help many more students for years to come. The number of students this project will reach is countless.
I want to get students excited about learning, and especially excited about science. I want them to ask questions, and try experiments. I do not have the resources to supply these materials to our students, and learning about magnets from a book does not go a long way.
These materials will serve my students by giving them an opportunity to work hands-on with science. Our special needs students have a very difficult time trying to understand magnets from a book. These resources will give all of the students at my school an opportunity to learn first hand how magnets work.
These resources would enable our students to learn how compasses work, understand Northern and/or Southern lights, and experiment with how magnets work. The students will learn how every experiment does not come out right, and it will help them learn how important it is to keep trying. These materials will help them learn about science, but they will also help them learn about how things rarely come out right the first time; the importance of working hard; how great success feels after really working hard; and get them excited about learning. I think these life lessons are just as important as learning about magnets, and our earth.
