Connect Our Class to the Outside World With Tablets!
My students need tablets in the classroom to do research for current even writing prompts. We also use tablets to help add another dimension when comparing literature to other media.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school with over half of our students from lower income homes. We have students who are homeless, in foster care of on free or reduced lunch. Our students have limited access to computers. I would say over 90% of the students do not have a computer or tablet at home. These students work hard and we try our best to provide them with the best instruction possible.
We are an IB program school and as teachers, we try to expose our students to the world while creating an environment that is tolerant and accepting of all.
My Project
We currently have 5 tablets we use in small groups for anything from comparing literature to using web based applications that tie to our literature books. The addition of more tablets and headphone will allow us to allow for more individual work. We also use the tablets to do research for current event writing prompts. We use the tablets because computers are not always available because of testing and what not at the school. My goal is to have a class set of tablets so each child will be able to use all the additional resources available with our literature book that we currently can not use all the time.
