My classroom is very different than most math classrooms. We start off by reviewing concepts presented in a video the night before. My students collaborate and help each other with new ideas and problems. Everyone who walks through this classroom door knows that we are going to learn something new.
My students are awesome.
They are full of energy and are always making me laugh. Middle school students are some of the best students you could ever work with. Their enthusiasm for school and life cannot be compared to any other age group. Our school is full of teachers who are compassionate about teaching. We are always trying to be better than the year before in terms of helping our students reach their fullest potential. In return, our students are excited to try new ideas, learn from each other and learn from their mistakes. Our middle school is a wonderful place to work where we are all like family. We treat each other with respect and hold each other accountable. Any time someone needs help there is always a group of people there at any moment.
My Project
Technology can be a very exciting tool to increase student engagement. The vision I have for my classroom is an environment where students can collaborate and cultivate a better, deeper understanding of math concepts. Using these iPads, my students will be able to make presentations, formulate arguments in support of different ideas, and connect with other students and classrooms around the world. They will learn that math concepts can be brought to life with technology and that learning from your peers can be very powerful.
Technology is everywhere but there are still some students who do not have devices or internet access at home.
Bringing these devices in the classroom helps bring all of my students together in the same learning environment. The main goal is to increase student achievement and help each student reach their fullest potential. This project will help bridge the gap between students from low income and high income families.
