Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is similar to many others. I have students that come from broken homes, low-income families, and different learners. What my students need is someone to guide them and be their best support for their lives. I am willing to be that teacher to provide the lessons, support and guide them to success.
What makes them special is that even with their background and statistics against them they are willing to work hard.
These students come every day willing to learn, fail, and try again. They want to prepare for their future, they have dreams, want more for themselves, and need a better life.
Our students learn the same as every 4th graders, but also add to a second language. My students participate in a dual language program and working to be bi-literate. My students are 50% bilingual and proud to be able to speak to their grandparents, parents and many others in the community. My students know their background and are glad that they have the ability to speak more than one language.
My Project
My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interests of my students. Students in my classroom like learn new things and get excited about what they are learning.
If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.
Technology is just a tool in terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.
My students can use the Fire Tablet to expand their vocabulary (translate/dictionary), keep track of library books available in the classroom (Book retriever), create a portfolio of projects and team work in the classroom (Class Dojo), learn how to budget and save (EVERFI), create and research projects (Google Classroom), use educational games based on individual needs (ABCYA, Math Antics, Study Jams), access to books for different levels to enhance fluency and comprehension (EPIC!), utilize Microsoft to prepare for their future jobs (PowerPoint and Word), coding for programming and many more.
