Have you ever been terrified because you felt you were not prepared for an assessment? The feeling is horrible! I have 20 wonderful smiling faces that I greet every day at my door. My ultimate goal is to prepare all my students to feel confident when test taking on the computer.
My diverse group of 20 students consists of 4 English as a Second Language students.
Some of my students have Individualized Education Plans and would greatly benefit from the assistive technology. I have several students that have been diagnosed with ADHD. Our school is a wonderfully peaceful school that serves a diverse population. We have dedicated teachers and administrators. With recent funding cuts, we are limited on technology. It is very hard to prepare students for this test with limited technology in our classrooms. Our school does have a computer lab. We are allowed to go once every two weeks. Our school houses over 1200 students K-5. My students are active learners that are engaged when using technology.
My Project
My plan is to create an engaging technology experience by providing a center rotation to computers daily. I give my students open-ended questions to respond to during reading. My students are required to write their responses in notebooks daily. With the laptops and wireless mice provided my students would be able to type their responses to these open ended questions. This will help them to practice their typing skills and prepare them for their end of the year assessment. The donations of laptops will improve my classroom by directly impacting how students learn. Putting this technology into their classroom will allow them to be successful and prepared.
Many of my students do not have technology experience due to socioeconomic factors.
This project will help my students to be challenged daily if needed. Also, those students that are struggling, will benefit by daily practice. This will engage all my students on a daily basis. This will change my students' lives for the better and prepare them for the future.
