Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low socioeconomic urban area in Long Beach. Many of our students live in overcrowded spaces, some are even homeless or live in shelters, and are unable to go outside and move freely because of safety issues in our neighborhood.
Despite hardships that they face at home, these students come to school with a positive attitude and a smile on their faces!
They show up eager to learn and interact with their teachers and fellow students.
My students make me look forward to coming to work everyday. Their curiosity and enthusiasm are just infectious and they make me want to give the world to them!
My Project
With state testing coming up, my students have had zero opportunities to be explorers and engage in STEAM projects. I want to create an after school program where the emphasis is less on academics and focused more on fun, and building confidence by taking risks.
My students will learn the basics of coding while strengthening important skills like following directions, problem solving, and collaboration!
Most of my students are tactile learners and rely on hands-on activities. The Elenco Teach Tech Robot kits will allow my students to become proficient in foundational coding skills and give them an opportunity to be creative mechanical engineers!
