Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our high school is a microcosm of the world with students from 70 countries who speak 29 different languages. We have strengthened our honors curriculum while at the same time meeting the individual needs of children whose early academic needs have not been met. Our foreign population fluctuates from year to year and can be seen as a reflection of the economic and political climates of the nations of South, Central America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Our school currently hosts 2355 students, consisting of 69% Hispanic, 23% White non-Hispanic, 5% Black non-Hispanic, and 3% “other”.
Our population has diverse needs as evidenced by its 27% mobility index and 12% limited English proficient enrollment. Approximately 08% of our students receive differentiated instruction to meet special education needs, and 21% receive instruction for the intellectually gifted.
My Project
What if the cure for cancer was trapped inside the mind of someone who can't afford an education? My goal is to help each of my students go to college regardless of their finances.
This iPad will give our students the opportunity to work on their college applications, confidently and with the support they need.
I chose an iPad as the main way because they are small and extremely useful. All the programs we use towards college applications are compatible and students can save and share their work with others if they so choose.
This past year we had one iPad which was extremely useful but with over 1000 students definitely not enough. I want to reach more and more students and have them be confident in their college applications.
