Help me give my students the resources to express their creativity and experience things they may not normally get to with a whiteboard, and a binding machine and bindings. By binding a book of student creations, they will gain the confidence to express themselves.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The classroom I teach in is a Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) room in Comstock, Michigan. The GSRP is a Michigan state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children with factors which may place them at risk of educational failure. Comstock is a small rural town in Kalamazoo county Michigan. The majority of the population in Comstock is living at or below the poverty level and all of the students in my classroom qualify for free breakfast and lunch. On top of living at or below the poverty level, many of the students have experienced some kind of trauma already in their four years of life.
As the teacher in this room I work everyday to keep learning fun and engaging as well as create a safe learning environment full of love and acceptance.
Every student that attends school in this school district receives free breakfast along with free lunch. The students in my classroom need an extra focus on how to appropriately manage their behaviors and feelings on top of being shown how to be in a school setting. This is all in addition to all of the other expectations in a regular preschool. All of these kids deserve a fair education.
My Project
These items will be used in the classroom as confidence boosters. They will allow me to do things in the classroom that the students may never otherwise get a chance to do. The apple peeler will allow all of the students to actively participate in making applesauce a variety of ways throughout the year and expose them to concepts like cooking and recipes. The whiteboard will provide a space for the students to participate in shared writing and give them an opportunity to build gross motor skills while writing up on the wall instead of down on a table. The binding machine will take the students creativity and make it forever. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the joy in a student's face when they see their ideas and drawings in a real book in the library.
I pride myself in giving my students the confidence they deserve to come out of their shells and express themselves creatively throughout the school year.
With these materials, I can accomplish this on a whole new level this year.
