Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are predominately socioeconomically disadvantaged, with many qualifying for free or reduced meals. This school, located in southern NJ is a part of a tight-knit community that rallies together to make the best school environment possible. For example, teachers do their best to assist students with various needs, such as supplies, toiletries, clothing, and food.
Despite what may be viewed as a less than ideal situation, the students are dedicated and try their best to make the best of any situation.
Many students stay after school for assistance and do whatever it takes to pass their coursework. Our students have a great relationship with their teachers and we all try to make each other's day a little bit brighter.
Our students, given the opportunity, will rise to any occasion and prove that they are some of the very best students in the state of New Jersey.
My Project
My students will be able to venture outside of the traditional textbook and find themselves immersed in a fascinating book detailing the inner workings of our capital.
My students will be able to work independently or within a group dynamic, as they develop their own critical thinking skills and determine the difference between fact and fiction.
This book will allow my students the opportunity to read an outside source, often times they do not have this luxury, and debate the significance of the claims presented in the text. Students will be able to present their arguments, regarding the text, in essay format or in a multitude of other ways, such as Google Slides, Prezi presentations, etc.
