Many of my students come from a high level of poverty. We are considered a Title I building, which means many families receive free/reduced lunch, donated school supplies, and benefit from regular food/clothing drives. The opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities like arts programs can be limited due to the cost of participating.
It is integral that arts programs continue to remain a part of the school curriculum, so that students who otherwise cannot afford to participate in performance groups can have the chance to do so through the school music department.
My students are working really hard to create a wonderful winter concert program. We are performing pieces from stage and screen and need your help to make their program memorable!
My Project
When every student is engaged, lessons become so much more exciting! I cannot wait to use these instruments not just for our concert, but in the years to come in our music classroom. Unpitched percussion instruments allow students to work on beat, rhythm, dynamics, and notation skills while creating a more well-rounded musical experience. Other supplies (concert attire accessories) will allow my choir students, who put in extra hours of their own free time to rehearse, the opportunity to stand out and be recognized for their hard work.
