I teach at a middle school were the students are hard working and respectful. They do not have the best of situations within their community. We have a severely high rate, almost 100%, free and reduced lunch program qualification. Many of my students come from broken homes, are homeless, are exposed to gang life and drugs. Even with all of this surrounding them they come to school every day ready to learn, showing respect, and continually being responsible for themselves and their decisions.
The majority of students at my school come from low income families but have hope for a bright and successful future.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I help them see the successful future they can all achieve.
My Project
These materials will offer a comforting classroom atmosphere while students work on their laptops learning how to navigate Microsoft Office 365, emails, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Coding, and various other programs and applications.
Imagine yourself as one of these students and having the option to sit at a traditional table and chair or sink in to a comfortable bean bag while learning and working on your laptop.
This is an amazing way to get more students to enjoy technology, become responsible, and relax during a stressful day in middle school! I am hoping that you see this as the awesome opportunity that I see!
