This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are wonderful young men and women who struggle with reading. Many are from disadvantaged families, in addition to having students who speak a wide variety of languages.
Even though they face multiple challenges in life, my students have a zest and enthusiasm for learning.
They work hard to overcome their obstacles, and love to celebrate their successes. My students see themselves as "bad" readers, but they just need some help to push them through their struggles, and close the gaps.
My Project
My students struggle with reading, and engagement is often a challenge. They don't want to be seen with what they consider "baby books".
Chromebooks will allow my students to access a wide variety of online content, which is extremely engaging for them.
Not only will they have access to the online leveled reading program our district uses, but they will also have access to a many articles for research, and to learn about current events.
Additionally, Chromebooks will allow my students to respond through technology to their reading. There are many platforms that appeal to children to engage the in writing about their reading.
