My Students

Our school strives to serve a wide range of students. Some are in the band, play sports, or participate on the forensics team. Our after school gaming club has given a home to students who might not fit into that traditional mold.

Our students have the same need as any others; to have a place where they can be themselves and be part of a team.

One of the facets of our gaming club is competitive online gaming with other high schools across the country. In order to build a strong team, we truly need some new computers. Our aging laptops often pose technical problems with system updates and Internet connectivity.

My Project

Our school runs an after-school gaming club that provides students with a unique place to be involved in the school culture. Many of our students have struggled to find a place where they fit in, and I have been thrilled to watch them participate in our program. They build friendships and develop their interpersonal skills with us every time we meet.

One of the cornerstones of our program is competitive online gaming.

Our students compete weekly in an organized league against other high schools across the camaraderie they have built has been amazing.

What has become a major hurdle for our students is the age of our current computers. Many of our students cannot afford to purchase a computer to bring to the club, and the computers we have are showing the wear of eight years of constant use by hundreds of students. In order to maintain the enthusiasm of our program, we desperately need newer machines that we can dedicate for the use of our club.
