I have eight students, who are second and third graders. Our school is a specialty school designed to be a therapeutic whole experience for a range of disabilities. Academics is a strong focus at our setting, and our students work very hard on all four subjects each day.
These students are artists, singers, and dancers, and love to participate in gym, art and science!
Our school is located in an urban setting within Chicago Public Schools. Eighty percent of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.
My Project
My students is asking for a touchscreen computer for hands-on learning in our diverse learners classroom. Students will work together to explore our world digitally. They can be artists, mathematicians, word wizards or storytellers.
This interactive touchscreen computer will allow each student (who have fine motor delays and are unable to use a mouse) to work as they learn to be mathematicians, artists, science explorers, readers and writers.
Some of my students can also work on beginning reading skills by manipulating letters and sounds on the screen to make words, to match pictures with beginning sounds. We can read picture books that are displayed on the large screen. We can circle our sight words in the book for all to see, add labels to the pictures as we practice important writing skills, add more details to the pictures, circle words that describe the characters and so much more!
