Mrs. Dowdall from Flint MI is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 3 laptops to be successful. We are housed in a mobile unit two blocks from the main building and have one old desktop which usually is not working.

Computers are the future for children. The one old desktop that I have in my classroom does not take most disc. Our class is housed about two blocks from the main building and my children do not have access to a good computer.
I teach 2nd graders and team teach with another teacher that has a 2nd/3rd split.
Both of us are in mobile units about two blocks from the main building. Our students are excited to use the computer, but with 29+28 children and little space, it is difficult for them to get a chance to use the old desktop. I believe that they deserve the same material as other children. These children have a deep desire to become successful even though we are in an inner city school. The school district has put a freeze on any materials for classrooms because of the deficit in funds. We had a good tax base but since the closing of GM plants and suppliers, many families have had a rough go of it as well as the school district. The children should not be penalized because of this. They deserve the best education we are able to provide and technology should be at the top of the list for supplies..
I am requesting 3 Compaq laptop computers. For security reasons, they would be locked up every night. This would give my children access to computers and reading and math games. Also they would be able to write, edit and print stories they have written. It is a necessity that children have access to the latest technology in their classroom at a young age. Students in most districts have a school computer lab also but our school only has 5 desktop computers in a small hole-in-the -wall lab. What a shame for the children. Because we walk over to the main building everyday (yes, rain or snow), I try to have the children use the 5 computers but then what is there to do with the other 24 students? There are no extra classrooms and we can only use the library once a week. We rotate and the other students sit on the floor to wait their turn. Having laptops in my unit would be so wonderful for these deserving students.
Your donations will make a tremendous difference for the education of young students.
I believe that it is necessary to start the education of technology as young as possible. This will be the way of their world when they enter the workforce. Having laptops in my classroom also will make available computer use when they are in need of information or have their schoolwork finished. They will be able to access reading and math games and write stories to print out to share with others.
