Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember being bullied at school and not knowing what to do about it? Students need to know how to identify bullying behaviors and how to protect themselves against bullies.
I work in a large public school in a low-income neighborhood in California.
Most of my twenty-four 3rd grade students are second language learners and are below grade level, especially in language arts. They are at high risk of being bullied by other students and gang members.
My Project
"Bullying in Schools" will help me develop lessons to discuss in a safe environment my students' experiences with bullies and what they can do the next time they encounter a bully. They will become aware of any bullying they may have participated in without realizing it. They will draw and write about different tools they can use to stop bullies. I will also use the laptop to develop lessons and visit websites that will help my students understand cyberbullying.
These books, the laptop, and mouse will provide my students with a life-long skill in identifying and protecting themselves from bullying.
Learning this skill will be especially beneficial as they continue their education in middle and high school.
