I teach in a rural community which is poverty stricken. We are ranked as the poorest county in my state. In most counties, a small portion of the schools are considered Title I, however, our entire county is Title I. Unfortunately, a larger percentage of our student body is living with extended family or friends, rather than their own mother or father. Many students have been abandoned, kicked out, or are considered runaways. Starting next year we are working to increase educational opportunities to prepare our students for a brighter future.
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step," Lao Tzu.
It has long been my dream to integrate more technology into the curriculum and to show my students a real future. Computer Science Principles is a first step to bringing our students into the 21st century. It is a real future within their grasp.
My Project
I love working with Interactive Design, Digital Animation and Digital Photography and I want to be able to share this passion with my students. My school is planning to implement both introductory and AP Computer Science classes next year. Research shows a great need now, and even greater in the future for people trained in this field.
I need a little more training!
Whether the student is interested in art, engineering, media or most any other field of study, a core understanding of basic Computer Science skills is essential to create solutions to solve complex problems. Through hands-on experience students will learn to apply programming tools that can lead to a bright future. Thanks for coordinating this event, CSTA.
