This year is the pilot year for our newest program at my school -- The SparTECHus Technology Academy. The goal of this academy is to expose students to jobs in the field of technology -- through the Google Business model as well as through hands-on experiences.
Thus, providing equal opportunities to all students in our school district as students develop critical thinking.
This year, I had over 150 students sign up for this course. My students are excited to learn in a non-traditional manner -- this will help further their love for education and computer science.
My Project
So often in education, we are stuck in the same pattern -- lecture, then homework. In my coding class, I want to change the way instruction is delivered. Using the 20% model, students will spend 80% of their time coding using the Python language.
On Fridays, students will use 20% of their time to think critically and analyze video games and cell phone applications, thus teaching students through hands-on activities what works well and what doesn't work well.
The goal? Translate their experiences from (using the Nintendo Switch & The Nintendo Switch Controllers) into the apps they make so that their current and future stakeholders are happy with their success.
