Mr. Tyler from Corona CA is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need to experience professional development in Indiana.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I enjoy the challenges and various roles I take on in providing rigorous and engaging content for my students. After the excitement created from a successful launch of AP Computer Science Principles, there was a significant growth in females and minorities in the course. It is rewarding to see the students experience light bulb moments when they gain understanding of computer sciences concepts they had previously taken for granted. Many of the students are inspired to create their own unique projects based on the concepts and skills acquired. Both students and I eagerly anticipate the class time together.
In particular, I enjoy guiding my students through the concept of discovery learning.
We engage in hands-on experiences in various areas of Computer Science that give greater understanding and retention. Both the students and I have grown in how we learn. I look forward to additional strategies and resources I can use with my students. I expect this professional development opportunity to help fulfill that desire.
My expectations of professional development are that I obtain additional resources that will enhance the learning of my students. Curriculum development is one area in particular. Learning the latest in industry standards and combining that with content curriculum will help prepare students for a future in computer science. Another important element is incorporating new activities and projects in order for students to have a better understanding of computer science concepts. As I expand the computer science offerings at our school I want to include more App development and the addition of robotics kits. All of these areas would be valuable elements to our program.
One of the key experiences of professional development workshops is the opportunity to share best practices with colleagues in the content area.
Many educators have tried various ideas and strategies in the classroom and can share what experiences have worked best. In addition, educators have resources they have discovered, many at little or no cost, that are beneficial tools in the classroom.
