My first graders are naturally curious and they have a love for learning.
They are warm-hearted and will brighten your day when you are having the worst day. They greet you with smiles and eyes full of wonder. The children are of Hispanic descent. The majority of them are English language learners. They attend a school located in a high poverty area. All students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
One of the standards we are expected to teach is: "With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers." Imagine a classroom that provides children access to high-quality technology. They will use the laptops to seek out information for research projects. They will create Word documents to publish their writing. We will also learn how to use other applications to reinforce and reflect on our learning.
Our children will need to have computer literacy skills to enter the workforce.
Being computer literate will open many doors for my students. Early exposure to technology will better equip my students with skills needed later on in life. With the use of technology, students will strengthen their depth of knowledge, their problem-solving skills, and their ability to be innovative.
