My Students

A typical day in our classroom is much like an upper level elementary classroom. Our class is unique because we teach all subjects instead of switching for periods. At the end of the year I want my students to be able to succeed in the world but also have a curiosity about what surrounds them.

My students are all from Oakland or the surrounding area.

Our students from from some of the most difficult places to live but are among some of the highest achieving (and most awesome!) students I have ever taught. My school generally tries to focus strictly on test achievement but I would like to bring something more to my students and actually have them interested in lifelong learning

My Project

We will use our materials to do more interactive projects! Most of my students do not use computers on a regular basis (many do not have them at home) and our classroom supplies are extremely limited. We generally are only able to use our textbooks, pencils and paper. I would love to be able to show the students movies, video clips, and do interactive games and problems to further their learning. It would also be nice not to have to carry my laptop around every time I have to show them a picture!

My students will be able to go beyond the 'study text and take the test' mentality that many of them have.

While it is important that they do well on their testing, it is also essential that they love learning and gain knowledge for fun as well as in order to succeed and move forward.
