My adolescent students are eager to explore the world around them and to have new learning experiences everyday. They are hardworking English Language Learners with perseverance to problem solve and curiosity to discover. Majority of my students have had to overcome many obstacles to be in my classroom and most of them continue to face challenges on a daily basis in their communities.
My students hungrily seek opportunities to develop into problem-solving, 21st century global citizens who participate in a multicultural society and who actively learn about themselves, others, and the world around them.
We love technology, art, and music and we desire success in life. This drive shapes the work we do in the classroom and in the surrounding community. We are motivated to learn and we try to have fun everyday while sharing, thinking critically, and growing together!
My adolescent students have a natural curiosity about what they can find on the internet. I want a way to be able to harness this curiosity in positive, constructive, and educational ways. I also want to provide my students with regular typing lessons and lessons on how to navigate internet resources. In working with English Language Learners, I have to heavily modify my lessons to include images, videos, music and digital field trips and what better way to do this than to put a laptop in front of them. Finally, all of our high stakes testing is completed on laptops now so I have to provide my students opportunities throughout the year for mock test prep so they can be successful when taking the real exams.
My students live in a digital world so it is a disservice to have them learning in an analogue classroom!
My students need many opportunities for digital exploration if they want to be successful in life. Please help us develop these necessary life skills!
