Hooray! This project is fully funded
I am the Literacy/Math coach at Seven Trees School which is located on the east side of San Jose, California. We have approximately 700 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade, with the highest population of students in the Migrant Education Program in the Franklin-McKinley School District. In the 2005-06 school year, approximately 70% of the students were English Language Learners, 88% of the students were on free/reduced lunch, and 87% of the students were Hispanic. These percentages are roughly the same for this school year.
All of our 180 K-1 students are currently using a computer program, Waterford Program, as an intervention. These headsets will allow all of our K-1 students to record a reading session so they, along with the teacher, can hear it played back.
Our 100 2nd grade students will continue with a computer program, Reading Companion, which provides English language support and intervention. Reading Companion provides immediate feedback and correction.
Both programs require headsets with microphones which we need desperately for 20 computers.
We need to get our primary students reading - building comprehension and fluency so that they will be readers for life.
