Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am using Google classroom and other various apps: Google forms, slides, docs, calendar, duolingo, storyboard, quizlet to practice vocabulary, padlet and so many others in order to engage my students and improve their pronunciation, writing and reading activities.
As a teacher in a low-income school, my students are faced daily with several challenges both in and out of the classroom 84% of our school students are on the free lunch program.
Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school excited each day and want to learn and work hard. I noticed that the new generation of students becomes more involved in a learning environment when technology is present in the classroom.
My Project
One area my students struggle the most with is listening and speaking. I know first hand how nerve wracking it is to try to overcome learning a new language and having the confidence to speak to native peers. I'm requesting headphones so that I can set up a listening station. At this station, students will be able to listen to stories or practice listening to audio conversations to boost their listening and speaking confidence.
In my classroom, we practice listening and speaking daily using cooperative learning strategies.The addition of technology would give my students a much needed boost of practice in the areas of listening and speaking.
Students who are confident in their listening and speaking abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education and the workplace.
