Have you ever been the last one chosen for a team or the last one to finish a project? My students face this frequently. They do not have enough time in the computer lab to finish their projects and need a computer in a special needs classroom so they can get their assignments finished.
My students are located in an urban region of Ohio.
All of the students that I work with have been identified with either a learning disability or a cognitive disability. In other words, my students are special needs students. The student body that I work with is very diverse. Students come to our school from various ethnic, social, and cultural backgrounds.
Approximately 70 percent of the student body has been identified as socio-economically disadvantaged. As a result of the economic disadvantage suffered by many of our parents and students, they do not have a lot of resources at home to spend on educational supplies.
My Project
Over the past several years, my special needs students have been making remarkable progress in their abilities. Some of the students have increased their skills and are now attending community colleges. This has been possible because students have increased their reading, writing, and computer skills.
As you can imagine, there are not a lot of computers in an economically disadvantaged high school. There are not computers available for students in my classroom to help equip them with the skills they need to be successful in life. By purchasing a lap top for my students, they will be able to complete more of their projects, increase their grades, and increase their skills.
Technology and the use of computers are very important lessons that students learn in school today.
Being computer literate is vital to future success in our society. Regardless of the career that students choose, the use of technology is a requirement. By teaching our special needs students to use technology better, we will be able to impact their futures as well as the lives of their children. Please help our special needs students develop their computer skills. THANKS for your help!
