Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager, enthusiastic young artists. They come into the art studio willing to learn, take risks, and explore their creative potential. Through our time together, I have had the opportunity to know them as individuals. Many have come up through hardships in their childhood that are more than anyone should experience in a lifetime - yet, they persevere. A large portion of my school's demographic receives free lunch and other services. When they enter the art room, they find a space that is welcoming and supportive. We use many of our projects to reinforce learning through their academic courses and to support STEAM in our school. My students want to be positive members of society, want to participate in problem-solving, and want to find success in their academic endeavors. My students' eagerness for learning surpasses expectations. I take honor in my role as their art teacher. I hope to inspire, motivate, and open their ideas to creative endeavors.
My Project
My students need a teacher that has a computer that can work. We have some great technological gadgets and options, but do not have a computer that can handle them!
In this time of distance learning, a reliable computer is essential to create dynamic lessons, organize the logistics of distance teaching, and help facilitate communication between myself and my students.
A new computer will also allow us to explore important artistic exploration and expression. Because many of my students fall below the poverty line, many never have access to electronic gadgets. When they can use good materials and are very appreciative for donations and help from others. It makes them feel special, and then their work takes on a new level of sophistication and sentiment. We can use the Internet to quickly look at artist that can inspire, many conversations in the art room evoke student curiosity and we can have access to information. Additionally, the art room has a great scanner and document camera, but no way to utilize these gadgets!
This project is important for the sense of pride and self-worth for my young students. When they learn about generous donors that care about them and their art, they feel better about themselves and are more willing to put extra effort into their art. It seems simple, but schools rarely have the funds to update the classroom computers and this donation would be used over and over again for unlimited potential of reasons.
