I am a first grade teacher at Burgaw Elementary School. We are a Title I school and we have a large percentage of free and reduced lunches. Burgaw is located in a low taxed based county. Many of our students struggle in reading. Although I am teaching first grade this year, next year I will loop once again and teach second grade with my same group of children. This is so beneficial for the students as well as for myself. The children know my routines and expectations, and I will already be familiar with their strengths and weaknesses. I know what they enjoy and what motivates them. I am asking for the Comprehension Quickies Card Boxes-Complete Set. They are high -interest reading selections on the front, and skill building activities on the back. They have multiple skill levels in fiction as well as nonfiction. The set includes getting the main idea, noting details, drawing conclusions, using context clues, sequencing, understanding sentences, cause & effect, predicting outcomes, and making inferences. All of these skills are crucial to master in order for them to be prepared and to pass the End Of Grade Tests. My students would LOVE to have the opportunity to work with these cards. They are are hands-on reading activities that guide them to use their higher level thinking skills. This would help out a lot with their desire to read and it would help them be successful learners!
