My students need interesting materials to help them practice their reading comprehension skills. It is important to practice with texts that the children can read. The sets will help provide the needed materials.
My students are at-risk readers, to whom I provide additional support. They are energetic and excited to learn. They come to us with various needs and it is my job to identify those needs and address them.
My school is in a large urban district and we have a high poverty rate.
The children have many more challenges to face than just what happens at school. I am always trying to equalize the educational experiences for my students. They deserve it!
My Project
The materials will make a difference in my students' learning, by providing them with reading materials that will be just-right for them. Non-Fiction books are difficult to find at the just-right reading level for Kindergarten and 1st grade students. The sets not only include just-right levels, but also shorter texts to practice their comprehension skills.
At-risk students need engaging materials, that motivate them to learn.
The materials I am requesting, will help with this motivation.
The children will also be able to practice their decoding skills, as they read age appropriate texts. The children will be able to practice reading fiction and nonfiction texts and using decoding strategies to figure out unknown words.
